February Guest Designer - Melinda thompson

Hi everyone, My name is Melinda Thompson and I am so thrilled
and honoured to be Guest Designing for 2Crafty Chipboard.
I hope you enjoy the projects that I have to share with you
all over the next few months.

Here is a little about me....

I am married to a wonderful husband Brad of 12 years and we have two adorable boys, Riley 5 years, Finlay 4 years who are my constant source of inspiration.  We live in a growing country town called Emerald in Central Queensland, Australia and just love the quiet country life.
I started scrapping around the time that Riley was born but only really became ‘serious’ about 3 years ago.  Now I am hooked!! Scrapbooking to me is a wonderful combination of creative release and a way of recording our family’s memories.  I love to scrap and journal about the little & insignificant details of my boy’s life.  I do something scrap related nearly everyday, if I’m not scrapping I am thinking about it, browsing through magazines, online galleries and blogs or simply taking photos of my little boys.
My style is always evolving, not sure if I have a style as I love to experiment with new techniques, so it often depends on what I am scrapping or the challenge.  Even though I have two boys, you will always see flowers here and there on my layout’s.  My layouts are often filled with any distressing technique, misting/masking, lots of layers and texture.
I have had many wonderful opportunities in the last few years within this industry which has helped me grow to the artist I am today. Currently I am one of the Educator’s for Manor House Creations, an Australian flower manufacture and on the Design Team for an Australian online shop and kit company, Paper Stories.

"Key to My Heart"

I very rarely scrap photos of my husband and I, but I quickly snapped this
photo of the two of us on my phone on New Years Day. So when I
received the gorgeous Hearts a Flutter Border in my pack,
I new exactly how I was going to use it.

I wanted the hearts running down the centre of my page, so I simply glued
down the raw chipboard on my background paper and then went around
the shape using Gesso. Nothing is perfect as far as my painting goes,
getting in and around the hearts while its glued on my paper gives off
a real shabby feel to this layout.

Next I went over it in some White Tim Holtz Crackle Paint...again this was just
randomly swiped on. After the cracks had formed and dried I unscrewed the
lid to my Shimmerz Vibz and using a fine paintbrush I just randomly went around
the hearts to highlight the cracks and edges.

How beautiful are 2Crafty's Word Phases...I just love this one...
Key to my Heart...
and I decided to use it as part of my title and because I love to cluster and
have lots of dimension on my layouts, I placed it over the top of my
flower cluster for a different effect.

So again, I covered my chipboard with Gesso and then I used one of my
favourite go-to products at the moment...my Shimmerz. This particular
one is a Blingz in Gold Glimmer so it has lots of texture and shine to it.

Lastly these lovely Vintage Keys.... I did the same techniques as above
but I wanted to go for more of an 'old' look so I used a dark colour of
Shimmerz, Antique Lace. The best thing about creating a shabby style layout
is,  nothing is perfect and everything is randomly brushed on with a fine paint
brush...so there is no such thing as mistakes! :)

I hope you are now inspired to get creating with your 2Crafty Chipboard.
I look forward to sharing more with you next month.

Thank you so much for visiting.
Melinda
