"Family is the Best part of Christmas"
Layout by Marie Sabatier

Hello everyone,

I’m happy to be back today to share my January layout with you.
I created this layout using some very special photos, capturing a beautiful moment shared by my son and his little family during a visit to a Christmas amusement park. The twinkling lights and winter atmosphere naturally guided me toward a warm and soft composition, while keeping a light and luminous overall feel.

"Family is the Best part of Christmas"

The chipboard used:

For this project, I wanted to place a special focus on the chipboards, which are the key elements of the layout. I chose to work on a light, slightly distressed background to allow them to stand out without overwhelming the page.
Before starting, I applied a thin layer of white gesso to all the chipboards. This step is essential as it prepares the surface and allows the inks to blend more smoothly and evenly.
I then worked on the “Ferris Wheel” chipboard, which I fully inked using Distress Oxide “Antique Linen.” This soft, slightly vintage shade adds warmth while still allowing all the chipboard details to remain visible. Once dry, I positioned it in the upper left area of the page, where it adds height, movement, and structure to the composition.

The “Star Frame” chipboard was treated with a bit more contrast to naturally draw attention to the photo. I started by applying “Frayed Burlap,” then darkened the edges with “Vintage Photo” to create depth. The stars were finished with “Brushed Corduroy,” adding a warm touch that echoes the color palette of the layout. I lightly sprayed water over the surface to achieve a soft mixed media effect while preserving the fine details of the design. Before adhering this chipboard, I added a cascade of tags to create movement and visual interest. I also placed a piece of cardboard under the main photo to slightly raise it and enhance the dimensional effect. Once everything was in place, I positioned the “Star Frame” around the photo.

The chipboards are complemented by a few subtle embellishments such as foliage, white flowers, and small stars, which support the composition without drawing attention away from the main elements.

For the title, “Family is the Best Part of Christmas,” I wanted to keep a very soft and light finish. I used Distress Oxide “Antique Linen,” applied very gently with a foam applicator, to ensure perfect harmony with the chipboards and the rest of the layout.

This layout highlights the chipboards, worked with subtlety, while telling a heartwarming family story filled with the magic of Christmas.

I hope this page has inspired you.

Thank you so much for stopping by,
See you soon.
